Minister of Health Neophytos Charalambides visited Archbishop Makarios III Hospital on Wednesday, bringing gifts and holiday wishes to children spending the festive season in the hospital.
During his visit, Charalambides emphasized that the children and their families “are by no means alone” during the Christmas and New Year period. “In these festive days, days of love and giving, our thoughts are close to the children who are hospitalized and their families,” he said before handing out gifts.
The minister also wished the children a speedy recovery, praised their families for their strength, and extended warm wishes to families welcoming a new member. “I wish them health and joy,” he added.
Charalambides took the opportunity to thank medical, nursing, support, and paramedical staff at Makarios Hospital and across Cyprus for their dedication and humanity, wishing them happy holidays.
When asked by journalists, the minister confirmed that this was his first hospital visit since taking office. He said he plans to visit all hospitals in Cyprus, starting with rural facilities.
Charalambides also addressed an ongoing issue at a private hospital facing understaffing, noting that a meeting on the matter is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with private hospital representatives attending.
Robertos Karachannas, General Financial Director of the State Health Services Organization, welcomed the minister, noting the challenges of the Ministry of Health and pledging support. “We will be by his side to help further upgrade the services and care we provide to our fellow human beings,” Karachannas said.
