A homeless man died in hospital on Wednesday, one week after he fell off a ladder while trying to find a place to spend the night in Paphos.

According to police, the 61-year-old man fell off a ladder on January 30 while trying to gain entry into an abandoned building. The fall was from a height of four metres, additional reports said.

He was rushed to the Emergency Room at Paphos General Hospital where doctors on duty determined he was bleeding as well as had a severe head injury and broken bones.

Initially the man’s identity was unknown with media reporting he was a foreign national with no relatives in Cyprus.

But reports later said a 30-year-old man, who contacted the police, confirmed that the injured man was his father, a 61-year-old Romanian national.

The man was hooked up to a breathing machine at Paphos General where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
