The Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection has withdrawn international protection from a group of Palestinian nationals linked to violent incidents that took place in Larnaca on 17 January, according to information from official sources.
The decision marks the first application of recently adopted legislation that allows authorities to revoke protection status from foreign nationals who are found to have committed criminal acts. The law was introduced through a bill submitted by the Deputy Ministry and has now entered into force.
Government sources emphasized that this move reflects a broader shift toward stricter enforcement of migration rules. They underlined that individuals who engage in criminal or violent behavior will no longer be able to rely on international protection to remain in the country.
Officials also stressed that the government’s priority remains the maintenance of public order and the protection of national security, reiterating a policy of zero tolerance toward illegal and criminal activity.
