In a packed Casteliotissa Hall in Nicosia on Wednesday, October 30, Kathimerini Cyprus presented Hirografo, a new book by journalist and author Eleni Xenou.
Hirografo offers a collection of handwritten stories inspired by the author’s strolls through the old city’s narrow streets, slow-paced seaside walks, quiet crossings over the island’s division line, and both near and far journeys by plane, ship, and train. The stories capture timeless moments, set in hidden courtyards, houses with “indoor rains,” cliffs brimming with carefree illusions, hospital beds with tight embraces, cakes by gravesites, and paths where, as she writes, “our real day was misplaced.”
Writing with a notebook full of quotes from renowned writers, Xenou reflects on the thoughts they spark and her own observations to shape Hirografo.
The book was introduced by Kathimerini Cyprus Editor-in-Chief Marina Economides, with readings by actress Erika Beghetti. Xenou wrapped up the evening with a book signing.
Hirografo, released by Kathimerini Cyprus, includes illustrations by Cypriot artist Charitini Kyriakou, accompanying each of the collection’s 38 stories. Part of the book's sales proceeds will benefit the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF).
