President Nikos Christodoulides outlined a six-point proposal aimed at addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza during the MED9 Summit held in Slovenia on Monday. The plan, which focuses on security, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction, is informed in part by a proposal from the President of the United States.
During the first session of the summit, President Christodoulides also presented the priorities of Cyprus’ upcoming presidency of the European Union Council, highlighting the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), EU competitiveness, and other key issues on the European agenda.
The second session included a working lunch discussion on the situation in the Middle East, attended by King Abdullah II of Jordan. During the discussion, President Christodoulides emphasized Cyprus’ readiness to contribute to humanitarian efforts and support peace, security, and prosperity in the region.
The summit also showcased Jordan’s important role in providing humanitarian assistance and hosting refugees. Leaders stressed the need to maintain stability and security in the region, where the European Union has strategic interests.
