Authorities are being urged to investigate a serious suspected wildlife poisoning incident in Agioi Trimithias after more than 23 dead hedgehogs and several dead hooded crows were discovered near residential areas and cultivated farmland.
According to reports, the animals were found scattered across fields in the area, with evidence suggesting the use of highly toxic poisoned bait. Concerns have been raised not only for local wildlife, but also for public health, as the suspected poisoned substances were allegedly placed inside cultivated crops.
Animal welfare advocates warned that the incident poses a risk to pets, livestock and humans, particularly because grain harvested from the affected fields could eventually enter the food chain.

The local community authority and some landowners have reportedly been informed, while calls have been made for the Cyprus Police to launch an investigation into the incident.
Under Cypriot law, the use of poisoned bait is considered a criminal offence punishable by up to three years in prison and/or a fine of up to €20,000.
Residents are being urged not to touch any suspicious bait or dead animals found in rural areas and to immediately contact the Poisoned Bait Detection Teams of the Game and Fauna Service.
