Officials are amazed with the number of visits to newly-opened Cyprus Casinos C2 in Limassol, with over 34,000 individuals stepping foot into the first licensed facility in the Republic.

According to Craig Ballantyne, the CEO of City of Dreams Mediterranean as well as Cyprus Casinos, visits during the first three weeks of operation exceeded expectations.

“Up until this moment, the number of visitors has exceeded our expectations and we are satisfied with the response,” said Ballantyne.

According to the CEO, guests from 41 different nationalities went through the entrance doors of the temporary casino, which will operate until a permanent resort casino takes its place.

The most popular game so far is the slot machine followed by American roulette

Most guests were Cypriot nationals, followed by visitors from Greece, Israel, Romania, Russia, and United Kingdom.

There were also 6000 guests who signed up for the loyalty Rewards Club programme.

“We believe that the increasing visitation and membership registration for Cyprus Casinos C2 Rewards Club is due mainly to word of mouth publicity that the casino got since the grand opening, but also the desire of people to have this experience,” he added.

As for the table games and main attractions, the most popular feature is the slot machine followed by American roulette.

The temporary C2 is located on 271 Franklin Roosevelt Road in Zakaki, taking over an area of 4600 square metres, including the 1300 sq.m table games area.

Entrance is free 24 hours a day for adults over 21 years of age, while minors are not allowed to enter the casino.

C2, operated by Cyprus Casinos, is a temporary facility in what used to be the Orphanides Supermarket before it went bankrupt. The mini-casino will shut down when the actual resort opens its doors nearby.

Permanent satellite casinos will also open in other towns, one in Nicosia and one in Paphos later this year and two more in Larnaca and Famagusta by next year, in 2019.

Two years later, in 2021, the actual casino is expected to go into full operation, expected to attract an additional 300,000 tourists annually, boosting tourism in many areas including conferencing and the leisure service industry.
