Several infant formula products manufactured by Nestlé are being withdrawn from the Cypriot market after authorities warned they may contain cereulide, a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. The recall is being carried out on a voluntary, precautionary basis, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry said the list of affected products has been expanded following earlier notices issued on 8 and 12 January. A newly added batch concerns the product S-26 GOLD 1 (400g), batch number 53280346AB, with a best-before date of 30 November 2027.
With this update, the products currently identified in Cyprus and subject to withdrawal and recall include specific batches of S-26 GOLD 1, NAN EXPERTpro Sensitive Plus, NAN EXPERTpro Lactose Free, and Nestlé NAN Optipro 1. Each product is being recalled only for the listed batch numbers and expiry dates.
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected batches are advised not to use the products to feed infants. Instead, they should return them to the retailers where they were bought.
Health authorities stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing. If it is determined that additional products have entered the Cypriot market through parallel imports or non-authorised distributors, further announcements will be made.
The Ministry also cautioned parents and caregivers who may have bought infant formula online from retailers based outside Cyprus to carefully check their purchases, as recalled products may have been obtained through international e-commerce platforms.
