No foul play in discovery of dead infant at Nicosia cemetery

Police confirm the infant died at birth and was buried by a priest; investigation focuses on potential disturbance by animals or weather

Authorities have ruled out any criminal activity in the case of a dead infant found in a Nicosia cemetery on Sunday, police sources confirmed.

A local woman made the discovery at the "Constantinos and Eleni" cemetery and immediately notified the police. Officers responded quickly, and after a thorough examination of the scene, they determined that the infant had died at birth in August. The infant had been buried at the site by a priest, in what appears to have been a routine burial.

Initial investigations suggest that the burial may not have been deep enough, leading to the possibility that the grave was disturbed either by animals or due to weather conditions. Police are looking into this theory as they work to understand how the body came to be uncovered.

Authorities stressed that no foul play is suspected, and the case does not involve any criminal wrongdoing. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the burial to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The discovery sparked shock and concern among the local community, but police have reassured the public that all signs point to a tragic but natural course of events, with no deliberate interference involved. Further investigations are ongoing to close the case fully.
