Thursday marked the third consecutive day of zero new coronavirus cases in the Republic of Cyprus, but the good news stopped short as the Health Ministry announced a new coronavirus fatality.

According to the announcement, a 65-year-old who was being treated at the Nicosia General Hospital ICU, and who suffered from underlying health conditions, succumbed to his coronavirus infection on Thursday.

Thursday’s death raised the number of people who died while infected with coronavirus to 26, though the Health Ministry said that just 19 of those deaths could be fully attributed to coronavirus, 13 of which were men and six were women, of an average age of 71 years.

On a more positive note, the Health Ministry’s epidemiological surveillance unit found no new coronavirus cases among a bulk of 1,047 samples that were checked for the virus. Thursday marked the first-ever time the Republic saw three consecutive days of zero new cases since coronavirus broke out on March 9.

As such, the total number of coronavirus cases recorded remained stable at 985, of which over 800 have fully recovered.

One coronavirus patient was discharged from the Famagusta General Hospital on Thursday, leaving just one more receiving treatment there. The Nicosia General Hospital also discharged a coronavirus patient that was admitted on Wednesday in a general ward, and is currently treating one coronavirus patient in its ICU.
