According to a Facebook post by Doxa Deftera, several buildings in the village of Deftera, located in the Nicosia district, were defaced with Nazi symbols and slogans in an act of vandalism reported on Wednesday by the left-wing political party AKEL. The incident has sparked outrage among locals.

The primary target of the attack was a structure associated with AKEL-affiliated community organizations in Deftera, which was undergoing renovations at the time. Vandals targeted multiple properties in the area. The perpetrators left behind neo-Nazi imagery and slogans, drawing widespread condemnation.

AKEL condemns the acts of vandalism
In an official statement, AKEL expressed profound dismay at the attack, describing the culprits as "night prowlers" and "nostalgists of Hitler." The party strongly denounced the use of racist and neo-Nazi symbols, stating that such actions are deeply offensive and contrary to the principles of human dignity and equality.

“We feel nothing but revulsion and anger at the hateful slogans and symbols written by these individuals,” AKEL said. “These acts are a blatant affront to the values of solidarity and coexistence that our community stands for.”

The statement further emphasized AKEL’s commitment to resisting such ideologies. “We will continue, with unwavering determination, to uphold universal human values and the legacy of our century-long history,” the party declared.

Incident under investigation
The acts of vandalism reportedly occurred under the cover of darkness, suggesting a calculated effort by the perpetrators to evade detection. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible. Law enforcement officials are currently examining the sites of the attacks and gathering evidence.
