More than 1,000 animals could soon be left homeless after authorities ordered the closure of an unlicensed animal shelter in the Paphos district.
The facility, which has been in operation for nearly three decades without proper authorization, houses a range of animals, including dogs, cats, goats, and donkeys.
Reports on Alpha TV’s “Alpha Kalí Mera” indicate the shelter was founded by British animal enthusiasts. Two decades ago, there was an effort to relocate it to another area in Paphos, but local opposition forced the plan to be abandoned.
Since then, the shelter has continued to operate close to residential complexes, drawing concern from neighbors and authorities alike.
Legal officials have issued a contempt of court warning, signaling that volunteers could face arrest if the shelter fails to comply with the closure order.
