The low-pressure system, affectionately nicknamed "BARBARA," currently enjoying a nice long stay over Central Greece, has apparently decided to pack its bags and head northeast. Unfortunately, she’s sending a little parting gift: a pesky weather front scheduled to crash our Tuesday night.
Today: The confused phase
We’ll start out with a classic case of weather indecision: mostly clear with some sporadic cloudiness popping up like uninvited thoughts. Then, the sky will commit to a more partly cloudy look, occasionally going full-on mostly cloudy. You might even catch a glimpse of an isolated shower. Think of it as the weather trying on different outfits before giving up.
Wind-wise, things are just as indecisive. This morning, a gentle puff from the southeast to southwest, clocking in at a polite 3 Beaufort. By the afternoon, they’ll pivot to the southwest to northwest at a more assertive 3 to 4 Beaufort. Fun fact: the southeastern coasts will temporarily get a burst up to a strong 4 to 5 Beaufort, perfect for practicing your angry shouting against the wind. The sea will be on its best behavior, moving from calm to slightly rough.
If you're keeping score on the thermometer, you'll find:
- A mild 27°C inland and along the southwest/western coasts.
- A slightly warmer 28°C for the rest of the coasts.
- A wonderfully cool 19°C for the high-mountain dwellers.
Tonight: Barbara's grand entrance
The night will start innocently enough, just getting a little cloudier. But stay up late, because from midnight onward, the party starts! Expect local rain and isolated thunderstorms, starting in the west and spreading like crazy to other areas. If a thunderstorm rolls in, your hair is not only doomed, but the winds might get dramatic and unpredictable. They could even come with a side of hail, just to spice things up.
Winds will generally be an easygoing southeast to southwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, but in the areas catching the brunt of the weather, they might crank it up to a very strong 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will get a bit testy, becoming slightly rough, and locally in the west and north, a truly restless slightly rough to rough. Sleep tight!
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: The unstable trio
Wednesday & Thursday: Look forward to two full days of unstable weather and souped-up southwest to west winds. Keep your raincoat handy for occasional local rain and the chance of isolated thunderstorms.
Friday: A momentary break for mostly clear skies, though some cloudiness will creep back in later, the weather equivalent of a lingering guest.
As for the temperatures, they'll be taking a brief, much-needed vacation, dropping slightly until Thursday to levels significantly below what's considered seasonally normal. By Friday, they'll attempt a tiny comeback, but don't get excited, they'll still be below the seasonal average. Maybe put away the emergency shorts for a few days.
