Paphos Mayor Phedon Phedonos on Thursday criticized the Health Ministry and state forensic pathologists over what he described as an unacceptable delay in performing an autopsy on a 62-year-old man who died Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, Phedonos said the autopsy would not be conducted until Monday in Nicosia, several days after the man’s death, and only after the body is transferred from Paphos, accompanied by a relative and police officers.
“Shame and more shame on this state,” the mayor wrote. “A 62-year-old man died yesterday in Paphos, and the earliest the autopsy will take place is Monday in Nicosia.”
Phedonos added that the body would be transported in a vehicle he described as “unsuitable for such a purpose,” blaming the delay on what he called a lack of proper organization by the Health Ministry and the attitude of forensic pathologists.
“Forensic pathologists act like ‘princes’; unionism at its finest,” he said. “Otherwise, everything is just fine…”
