Police are conducting a second investigation involving allegations of domestic violence against a serving mayor, according to a report broadcast by ANT1.
The case concerns Pieris Gypsiotis, the mayor of occupied Lysi. The complaint was filed with authorities earlier this month by a member of his immediate family. Investigators are currently in the process of collecting statements as part of the ongoing inquiry.
In parallel, the Ministry of Interior has sought formal guidance from the Legal Service. According to the ministry’s director general, a written request was submitted asking whether, under Article 113 of the Municipalities Law, the mayor should be suspended from his duties while the case is under investigation.
ANT1 also reported that this is not the only legal matter facing Gypsiotis. Separate criminal proceedings are already pending against him in relation to similar allegations, involving incidents said to have occurred between 2019 and 2023, before his election as mayor. That investigation concluded in early 2024, and the trial is scheduled to begin in March 2026.
