Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides urged ministers to accelerate the government’s agenda of 88 key projects for the administration’s second year, Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki announced after a recent Cabinet meeting. Piki reported that 51 of these initiatives are on track to finish soon, with 38 already complete and 13 others nearing completion. However, some 37 projects are behind initial timelines, prompting the President to call for stricter adherence to the government’s annual schedule.
The Cabinet session coincided with the release of the 2025 budget presentation to Parliament and each ministry’s forthcoming Action Plan for the year. According to Piki, these planning measures represent President Christodoulides' focus on transparency and accountability, involving annual reviews of government progress on key initiatives.
In response to questions about delays, Piki noted that when the planning began in January, ministries set their own timelines. Some hold-ups relate to legislation awaiting parliamentary approval, grant programs requiring more stakeholder input or minor setbacks in program announcements. Despite these issues, Piki said the administration remains focused on completing each project.
The Presidency confirmed that completed initiatives span areas such as Cyprus’ MED9 presidency, local governance reforms, asylum process overhauls, and various programs in education and energy. Ongoing projects include advancements in energy storage, health infrastructure, and public service improvements. The President plans to publish a comprehensive year-end report on these projects and their timelines.
Details and progress on all 88 flagship projects are publicly accessible on the government’s transparency website, diakivernisi.gov.cy.
