Showers and storms expected

Temperatures soar to 36°C in Cyprus' interior amid unstable weather

Newsroom

A low-pressure system and an unstable air mass are influencing the region.

Today, after patches of fog and low clouds clear, most areas of the island will experience mostly sunny skies, though some local low clouds will linger. By midday, cloud development could lead to isolated showers, with a slight chance of a brief thunderstorm, particularly in the mountains, interior, and northern regions. Winds will start light and variable at 3 Beaufort, gradually shifting to a southwest to northwest direction at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain mostly calm to slightly choppy. Temperatures will reach around 36°C in the interior, 31°C on the west and southwest coasts, 33°C elsewhere along the coasts, and 26°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear, though some local cloud cover may appear. Sparse fog could develop during the early morning hours. Winds will become katabatic, staying light at 3 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slightly choppy. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 20°C in the interior, 22°C along the coast, and 17°C in the higher mountains.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the weather will generally be clear across the island, though some local cloud development is expected, especially by midday. These clouds could produce isolated showers, mainly in the mountains and potentially in parts of the interior and east.

By Friday, mostly clear skies will prevail, with occasional increased cloud cover. Temperatures on Wednesday will remain slightly above seasonal norms, rising further on Thursday and staying above average on Friday.
