The discovery of a body in an advanced state of mummification has left investigators in search of answers. The body, found north of Ayia Napa at approximately 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 5, is currently being examined by the Institute of Genetics. The results of the genetic testing are expected within the next few hours and are crucial for identifying the deceased.
The autopsy revealed that the advanced decomposition of the body made it impossible to determine the cause of death. Consequently, samples have been sent for genetic, histological, and toxicological analysis to shed light on this mysterious case.
At present, the circumstances surrounding the man's death remain unclear, and authorities are exploring all possible scenarios. Initial investigations suggest that the deceased may be connected to a missing persons case involving 27-year-old Aleksandar Gligorjovic from Serbia. Gligorjovic was last seen on July 27, staying at a guesthouse in Ayia Napa.
Despite an extensive search effort by local police, including consultations with hospitals, campsites, and a bicommunal crime group, no leads have emerged. Complicating matters, Gligorjovic's mobile phone remains off, preventing authorities from tracing his signal.
Desperation has set in for Gligorjovic’s family, with his mother currently in Cyprus. She has launched a social media campaign to find her son, sharing his photo in a heartfelt plea for information. “He's still missing! Please share. A worried mother is desperately searching for her son, who was last seen in Ayia Napa four weeks ago. He did not check out of his hostel, leaving behind all his belongings except his passport,” reads her message.
The investigation continues as the authorities await the results from the Institute of Genetics, hoping to bring clarity to this unsettling situation.
