Six-day extension for Israelis accused of gang rape in Ayia Napa

Cyprus police pursue rape suspects

Newsroom

Five Israelis were brought to court in connection with a reported gang rape case involving a 20-year-old tourist in Ayia Napa.

The court decided to extend their detention for another six days. Three of the five suspects were present during the proceedings, as two are in isolation due to the coronavirus.

The police are looking into various offenses, including rape, sexual assault, forced sex, pressuring someone into sexual acts, sexual misconduct, abduction, and indecent assault against a woman.

The alleged victim of the rape said she was approached by someone at the hotel's pool and later taken to a room. She claims that the remaining four individuals then entered the room and sexually assaulted her.

The Famagusta District Court is handling the investigation.
