Severe weather on Clean Monday wreaked havoc on pharmaceutical warehouses belonging to the Ministry of Health in Nicosia, Cyprus. According to local newspaper 'Philenews', the storm resulted in significant damage to drug supplies, prompting the relocation of thousands of packages to prevent water damage.
The Ministry of Health assured the public in a statement that measures are already underway to swiftly replace the affected stock. Pharmaceutical companies and contractors are working to prevent any shortages and ensure continued access to necessary medications.
The damage was attributed to heavy hail and rainfall in the Strovolos area on March 18, 2024. Water infiltrated the warehouses, causing harm to cardboard boxes containing pharmaceutical products.
Efforts to assess and manage the situation are ongoing, with plans to relocate the pharmaceutical warehouses to more suitable locations currently in progress. The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to providing uninterrupted pharmaceutical care despite the challenges posed by the storm.
Residents are advised to stay updated on developments as the Ministry works to mitigate the impact of the damage and restore normal operations to the affected warehouses.
