The remains of Thanasis Nikolaou, a 26-year-old National Guardsman, have been placed in an ossuary at a monastery in Limassol, following coordination with the Metropolis of Limassol.
The remains, along with 350 fragments of Nicolaou’s hyoid bone, were handed over to his family last Friday after a court decision. They were received from the Limassol police chief.
Nicolaou’s mother, Andriana Nicolaou, who is currently in Jerusalem, shared the news in a social media post.
“With love, I share the news that: The remains of the late +THANASIS, including fragments of his hyoid bone, now rest in a monastery in Cyprus, with the blessing of our Metropolis. As for me, I am currently in a monastery in Jerusalem. Wishing everyone a joyful Resurrection and a blessed Easter!” she wrote.
Nicolaou’s case has drawn widespread attention in Cyprus, and the placement of his remains follows years of legal and investigative proceedings.
