Turkey has formally requested an explanation from Greece on March 25 regarding chants made by some Greek military personnel during a military parade in Athens, marking Greek Independence Day. The slogans were described as "impertinent" by Turkish officials.
Sources indicated that the incident was seen as an unacceptable attempt to undermine relations between the two nations.
Greek media reported that the Greek Ministry of Defense acted swiftly, with the Naval Forces Command launching a disciplinary investigation into the matter. The footage showed members of the Greek Armed Forces directing insults at Turkey and Turkish Cypriots.
Greece’s main opposition party, the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA), condemned the slogans and called for a thorough inquiry into the incident.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to visit Turkey soon for a high-level cooperation council meeting between the two countries.
