On Saturday, members of the Paphos Cleanup Community, in collaboration with the Environmental Cultural Club of Chloraka, organized a cleanup campaign on the western side of the Lighthouse. The effort brought together volunteers dedicated to preserving the local environment and raising awareness about the importance of cleanliness.
According to Andreas Kyriakou, president of the Chloraka Cultural Environmental Group, seven volunteers from the group participated in the campaign. In just one hour, the team collected 21 bags of assorted garbage, underscoring the ongoing issue of littering in the area.
Kyriakou highlighted the diversity of the Paphos Cleanup Community, which includes Germans, British, and Greek Cypriots working together to protect the environment. Over time, the group has conducted cleanup efforts in various locations, including Chloraka, the Vrexi area of Chloraka, Emba, Kissonerga, and West Akamas.
Reflecting on a previous initiative, Kyriakou mentioned that a month ago, volunteers collected 100 bags of garbage along a 200-meter stretch of Hellas Avenue, illustrating the scale of the litter problem in the region.
“We are all called upon to keep the environment clean,” Kyriakou said, urging more members of the public to join these vital efforts. The Cultural-Environmental Club of Chloraka and the Paphos Cleanup Community are committed to fostering a sense of responsibility and awareness among residents to ensure a cleaner, healthier environment.
Their message is clear: “Enough of this garbage. Let’s all do our part to maintain the cleanliness of our beautiful community.”
