If you’re heading out of Limassol this weekend, your drive just got a little easier.
A brand-new section of the Limassol–Saittas motorway officially opened to traffic on Friday, July 4, offering faster and safer travel for thousands of drivers who use the route daily. The project, known as Phase A1, covers a 3.6 km stretch from the Spiros Kyprianou Sports Center interchange in Polemidia and extends to connect with the existing road network.
This new addition includes two lanes in each direction, four new roundabouts, bridges, and upgraded safety features, all designed to ease traffic flow and reduce congestion for commuters heading toward the Troodos foothills or nearby villages.
A €26 million investment in smoother travel
According to the Public Works Department, the project was designed by private engineers and supervised by the state. It was awarded through an open tender and cost €26.1 million (plus VAT).
In addition to the main motorway lanes, the work includes a secondary road network, retaining walls, new signage, and traffic lights, making it a well-rounded upgrade for both everyday drivers and weekend road-trippers.
What it means for locals
For Limassol residents, this new section means faster access to the mountains and surrounding villages, reduced congestion at known bottlenecks, improved road safety with modern infrastructure and design
Whether you're heading to your hometown, planning a mountain escape, or just want a smoother ride out of the city, this new stretch of road is worth noting.
So if you’re planning a drive this weekend, especially up toward Saittas or Troodos, expect a faster and safer journey ahead.
