Can a vacation be less expensive than staying at home? That is exactly what EasyJet told British citizens, and the vacation package it offered for a trip to Egypt sold out in less than 24 hours.
In effect, EasyJet has told Britons that going on vacation in Egypt will cost them £227 less than staying at home.
Targeting primarily British people who work remotely, the airline promoted the 28-day package as a "UK escape."
The all-inclusive 28-day trip to Egypt cost £650 per person and included round-trip airfare, lodging in a 5-star hotel, all meals paid for, snacks, unlimited drinks, wifi, and airport transfers.
According to the company's calculations, the average Brit spends £877 in the UK for 28 days, with the 'bill' including rent and house bills, internet, food, travel, and streaming service.
In effect, EasyJet has told Britons that going on vacation in Egypt will cost them £227 less than staying at home.
According to CNN, the latest Office for National Statistics figures shows that the average British household spends £1,926 per month. When this amount is divided by 2.3 (the average number of people per household), the average British monthly spending is calculated to be £837, which is £190 more expensive than the EasyJet package.
Of course, just because someone is away from home for a month does not mean they will be 'spared' from paying their rent or mortgage.
In any case, EasyJet stated that the package is now sold out, but did not specify how many passengers booked.
