Woman behind infection chains upon returning from US fined

The 47-year-old woman who transmitted the virus to tens of contacts after failing to isolate upon her return from the US was fined €800 by the Larnaca district court

The Larnaca district court on Wednesday imposed an €800 fine on the woman who formed chains of coronavirus infections after returning from US.

Police said the 47-year-old woman was found guilty of flouting measures in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The court took as mitigating factors the claim of the defence that the woman was unaware of decrees issued under the Quarantine Law due to her being abroad.

The 47-year-old woman has caused headaches to health officials and the public alike as upon her return from the US in June, she failed to follow instructions to self-isolate as required by a health ministry decree, and instead participated in multiple large gatherings, transmitting the virus to tens of other contacts.
