In a shocking turn of events, the death of 62-year-old Ukrainian Vitaly Shostak, found dead on December 27 in his Limassol apartment, has been officially ruled a suicide. His wife, who had been arrested on suspicion of premeditated murder, has now been released, her name cleared.

Police were called to the scene after Shostak was discovered with a knife wound to the chest. His 63-year-old wife, whose birthday it was that day, initially told authorities her husband had taken his own life. However, suspicions were raised due to a prior argument and the presence of alcohol in their system, leading to her arrest.

A detailed forensic report appears to confirm the woman’s claims of suicide, prompting authorities to release her after several days in custody.

In her account to investigators, the woman said she and her husband had been celebrating her birthday, opening gifts sent by her son in England. According to her, Shostak suddenly went into the kitchen, and moments later she found him with a knife plunged into his chest.

In a tragic detail, she said Shostak walked back into the living room with the knife still in his body before collapsing. She admitted to pulling the knife out in a panic.

Adding complexity to the case, the woman acknowledged they had been drinking and that an argument had preceded the incident. Despite these factors, the forensic evidence aligned with her version of events, ruling out foul play.

While the investigation has now concluded, the case leaves a trail of unanswered questions and a family grappling with grief. For the 63-year-old woman, it marks the end of a nightmare – being accused of murdering her husband on her birthday.

Authorities have expressed their condolences to the family and urged the public to seek help if experiencing emotional distress. This tragic story serves as a stark reminder of the complexities behind domestic incidents and the importance of thorough investigations.
