A local woman says she was raped and robbed by at least two men in a hotel room in Nicosia, with police arresting three suspects including an acquaintance of the accuser whose name and photo was published earlier this week.
According to an official report, a 39-year-old male walked into a police station Tuesday evening where he was placed under arrest in connection with an ongoing investigation into multiple offences including rape and robbery.
A day earlier, police had released the name and photo of the suspect, described as Greek national, asking for the public’s help concerning his whereabouts, while two other men from Bulgaria aged 34 and 46 were arrested last week.
She said she saw the Greek man, whom she described as an acquaintance, getting inside her room and letting in two others through the front door
Local media said a 30-year-old Greek Cypriot woman was staying at a hotel in Nicosia last month, when she was allegedly raped and robbed in her room.
According to her complaint, the incident took place on April 18 when she saw the Greek man, whom she described as an acquaintance, getting inside her room and letting in two others through the front door.
The woman said the men assaulted and raped her and then stole her jewelry before running away.
Police say they are investigating multiple offences including rape, burglary, malicious destruction of property, and robbery.
It was not fully clear whether the woman had accused two or all three men of sexual assault. Local media said jewelry with high monetary value believed to belong to the accuser had been found in the possession of the two Bulgarian men during their arrest.
