The Windcraft Music Fest opens its doors for the ninth time on the weekend of July 22nd and 23rd in Katidata of Solea and invites music lovers and those seeking an interesting festival experience to join this celebration of wind instruments and more.
At the festival's two stages, Hani and Pervoli, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the fascinating world and Cypriot music and their fusion. According to Elli Michael, the festival's artistic director, the concert program of Windcraft Music Fest 9 presents wind instruments in various musical styles: from the atmospheric music of Gaba Project & Achilleas Tiggas and Vasilis Philippou with the project "Colourful Emptiness," to People of the Wind & Yiannis Dionysiou and Stereoteismo, with their unique approach to traditional Eastern music, and from the excellent fusion of jazz and world music by La Pêche and Human Touch, to the innovative sounds of Sonica & Toms Rudzinskis and Sustainable Resound, who blend acoustic and electronic elements.
The Windcraft Band returns, presenting well-known melodies with their brass sound, while the Windcraft Voices explore the musical traditions of the Mediterranean through acapella vocal arrangements.
At this year's Windcraft Music Fest, as in every year, there is a parallel program that includes workshops, walks, and other activities suitable for people of all ages. On July 22nd and 23rd, there will be a printmaking-collage workshop for children by Eleni Panagidou in collaboration with the Hambi Printmaking Museum, as well as a workshop on making shadow theater figures and practicing behind the curtain guided by Angela Stavrou from the "O Koukos kai t' aidoni" workshop.
Elena Xyda will present a wordless vocal workshop, saxophonist David Lynch will improvise, Achilleas Tiggas will give Balkan flutes, and Renos Ktoros will create Cypriot bagpipes. Eleni Philippou (The Curious Curly) will help us capture the memories of the festival on paper and take them with us in a jar, while together with Valia Matsentidou (Γράψε Το.) and Markos Batsis (Desert Island Records), we will walk through the village and find inspiration to write letters and postcards, just like in the old days! Finally, for the first time, Windcraft will take us out of Katidatata with a trip and guided tour of the churches and watermills of Galata by Aliosha Bielenberg and the Histories of bαhçές team.
For the first time, the festival organizes an artist-hosting program, which will take place from July 18th to 23rd, 2023. The residency program titled "People of the Wind: Bridging the Sounds of the East and the West," in collaboration with the Window onto the World Festival (Poland) and Balkan Trafik (Belgium), is supported by EFFEA (European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists) and co-financed by the European Union. The People of the Wind Ensemble, consisting of saxophonists James Wylie (New Zealand) and Fausto Sierakowski (France) and percussionist Alexandros Rizopoulos (Greece), will be hosted during the residency.
Visitors can camp for free in the courtyard of the municipal school.
