Euripides' "Troades" at the Ancient Theatre of Kourion

Prepare to be transported to the captivating world of Euripides' tragic masterpiece as the State Theater of Northern Greece (KTHBE) presents "Troades" as part of this year's "International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama." Directed by the acclaimed Christos Sougaris and featuring a translation by Theodoros Stephanopoulos, this production promises a subversive interpretation of the timeless play.

With a stellar cast led by Roula Paterakis in the role of Hecabe, the production boasts the talents of Dimitris Piatas, Antonis Cafetzopoulos, Alexandros Bourdoumis, Maria Diakopanagiotou, and Mariza Tsari. Accompanied by the internationally renowned soloist and composer Stefanos Korkolis' evocative music, this performance is set to captivate audiences.

As the captive women of Troy mourn the city's fall, Hecabe, filled with anticipation of her own fate, faces a series of calamities. The tragic events unfold as Polyxene is slain at Achilles' tomb, Andromache learns of the Achaeans' decision to kill her young son, Astyanacts, and Cassandra foretells the impending disasters that await the Greeks on their journey back.

Euripides' "Troades" serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of victors' arrogance and the importance of embracing our shared humanity, transcending fleeting victories. Through its exploration of the greatness of the women of Troy, this production highlights the indomitable strength that enables humanity to endure even in the face of destruction.

Don't miss this thought-provoking performance, enhanced by English subtitles, at the Ancient Theater of Kourion. The show is recommended for audiences aged 16 and above and has a duration of 110 minutes.
