Monday forecast gives desk-bound workers a break from the heat, but brings afternoon hail

An unstable air mass will trigger localized thunderstorms and hail across inland areas, the mountains, and the southeast.

The post-Assumption holiday workweek kicks off with a continuation of the unstable weather pattern. If you are one of the brave few back at your desk while half the island is still extend-vacationing on the coast, at least you won't have to deal with stifling 40°C heat today.

Low pressure combined with an unstable air mass will trigger afternoon cloud buildups, localized showers, thunderstorms, and even a risk of hail, primarily across inland areas, the Troodos mountains, and southeastern districts.

Here is how today's temperatures land:

Inland plains: Tops out around a very manageable 34°C.
West and southwest coasts: The coolest coastal stretch at 30°C.
Remaining coastlines: Resting around 33°C.
Higher Troodos Mountains: A crisp 26°C (expect afternoon storm clouds over the peaks).

Winds start light out of the southwest to northwest at 3 Beaufort, gradually picking up to 3 to 4 Beaufort. Later in the afternoon, the southern coast will catch a stronger surge reaching Force 5. The sea will remain slightly rough.

Tonight, skies stay temporarily cloudy in patches overnight, with localized light fog forming toward the early morning hours, mainly over inland areas. Winds ease down to a light 3 Beaufort flow, while marine conditions settle into a calm to slightly rough state.

Tuesday and Wednesday: The unstable pattern repeats. Expect afternoon cloud buildups bringing local showers, isolated thunderstorms, and hail, mostly targeting the mountains and eastern half of the island. Temperatures remain slightly below normal for mid-August.

Thursday: Clear skies return completely, with temperatures climbing back toward normal seasonal averages.
