Monday strikes again: Rainy weather with Christmas only 10 days away

Hanukkah begins, with a weak low-pressure system crashing the party.

Newsroom

It's Monday. Yes, that Monday. Work and school are still very much a thing, Christmas is teasing us from about 10 days away, and we’re all collectively asking: Isn’t it Christmas yet?! Good news, though. Hanukkah started yesterday, so Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends!

Now, for today’s episode of “What Is the Weather Doing and Why?” A weak low-pressure system has decided to drop by uninvited.

Today: Expect mostly cloudy skies with local showers and a few isolated thunderstorms, starting along the coast and later spreading inland and into the mountains. The highest peaks of Troodos might even get fancy with a bit of sleet or snow (winter cosplay).

Winds will blow from the northeast to southeast, light to moderate at first (3-4 Beaufort), then flexing a bit along the coasts (4-5 Beaufort).
The sea goes from calm to slightly grumpy.

Temperatures will reach:

  • 17°C inland
  • 18°C along the coast
  • 8°C in the mountains (Troodos is not amused)

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy, with a chance of a few lonely showers. Troodos might see snow or sleet again, just to stay dramatic. Winds remain moderate to strong, and the sea stays slightly rough. No glassy Instagram shots tonight.

Looking Ahead (Tuesday–Thursday)

The weather calms down and behaves itself: mostly clear skies, with some clouds occasionally wandering through like background extras.
Temperatures stay near seasonal norms until Wednesday, then Thursday warms up slightly, just enough to remind us we’re not quite in full winter mode yet.

In short:
Not Christmas yet.
Weather mildly chaotic.
Hang in there. We’re almost at the holidays.
