Byron performs his grand finale in Thursday's forecast

One last dramatic scene with hail and snow before the poet finally departs.

Newsroom

It appears our dramatic houseguest, the low-pressure system BYRON, is preparing for his final bow. But true to his reputation, he isn't going to slip away quietly. Oh no, he’s staging a grand finale for Thursday before the curtains close.

Today, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, keeping the mood suitably sombre. From midday onwards, expect the drama to peak with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. And because a simple storm isn't theatrical enough, hail is possible, and the highest peaks of Troodos will likely see sleet or snow. It’s a full sensory experience.

The winds will be shifting from northwest to northeast, blowing generally moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, but ramping up to a strong 4 to 5 Beaufort in the north and east, just to make sure you really feel the chill. Speaking of chill, temperatures are sticking to their winter script: 17°C inland, 19°C on the coast, and a biting 8°C up on the snowy peaks.

But here is the plot twist we’ve all been waiting for: By Tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, the critics are raving about a "significant improvement." That’s right. Byron is packing up his trunks and leaving. The skies will clear up considerably, leaving just some locally increased cloud cover to remind us he was here.

On Sunday, we might see a slight return of the moodiness with some isolated showers in the west and north, but for the most part, the heavy drama is ending. Temperatures will even start to nudge upwards from Friday, returning to average seasonal levels. So, endure the hail and the grey skies today. It’s just the final act before the intermission!
