500kg of synthetic drugs found in Larnaca

Massive drug haul discovered in Larnaca warehouse

Newsroom

In a landmark discovery, authorities in Larnaca have uncovered 500 kilograms of synthetic drugs, marking the largest drug seizure in the history of the island.

The ongoing investigation by YKAN, in collaboration with international partners, aims to shed light on the origins and purpose of this massive drug haul.

The illicit substances were found stashed in a warehouse at the former Larnaca airport, associated with a specific company.

Preliminary information suggests that these drugs may have been imported from India, with Cyprus possibly serving as a transit point in their distribution network.

Christos Andreou, the police spokesman, confirmed this unprecedented discovery and emphasized the urgent need for cooperation among nations to unravel the mystery behind this colossal drug find. Notably, no arrests have been made thus far.

The operation was set in motion when YKAN, working in tandem with customs authorities, received information that led them to a company warehouse in Larnaca. Inside, they discovered 50 paper barrels containing a crystal-like substance weighing 500 kilograms.

Subsequent examinations confirmed these substances to be synthetic drugs.

The seized contraband has been handed over to YKAN for further analysis, as the investigation continues to unfold.

YKAN's Larnaca District is at the forefront of this ongoing examination, which has sent shockwaves through the island's law enforcement and international partner
