No region in Cyprus is excluded from the government’s national water management plan, Agriculture Ministry Director General Andreas Grigoriou said Friday, responding to public concerns over the water supply in the Paphos district.
In a written statement, Grigoriou said strengthening the country’s water balance is a national priority and is being addressed through a targeted plan, immediate mobilization, and expert recommendations.
He said he plans to visit Paphos next week with technical staff from the Water Development Department to provide a detailed briefing on current infrastructure projects and planning efforts.
“Our goal is clear: to ensure water sufficiency for the entire country through targeted interventions, many of which are already underway,” Grigoriou said.
He emphasized that the effort is nationwide and coordinated, aiming to prevent any supply disruptions and to stabilize the national water balance.
Grigoriou also announced that mobile desalination units from the United Arab Emirates are expected to arrive in Cyprus by the end of May and begin producing water in June.
“Their operation will significantly contribute to meeting water needs and will meaningfully bolster the national water balance,” he said.
He added that the government remains committed to a long-term solution.
“Our unwavering goal is a definitive resolution of the water issue through a comprehensive plan that includes permanent solutions for sustainable management and increased resilience to climate challenges,” Grigoriou said.
