A passenger on an Air Canada flight from Vancouver to Toronto sparked controversy after noticing that the airline’s in-flight map labeled Israel as "Palestinian Territory." The passenger shared a photo of the screen online, drawing widespread attention and criticism, particularly from pro-Israel social media users.
Several online accounts slammed Air Canada for the labeling, with some accusing the airline of political bias. One user sarcastically commented, "Canada is now part of the great Islamic caliphate," while others demanded an explanation from the airline.
On the other side, pro-Palestinian voices supported the map’s designation, calling for Air Canada to maintain the labeling.
In response, Air Canada stated that the issue was caused by a third-party provider responsible for the interactive map system used on its Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline assured passengers that it was working with the provider to resolve the matter, noting that other airlines using the same system had also been affected.
This isn’t the first time an airline has faced backlash over map labeling. Irish budget carrier Ryanair previously stirred controversy when its website allowed passengers to select "Occupied Palestinian Territory" as their location when booking a flight.
