Authorities receive 22 reports of adverse reactions to vaccine

In the month since Cyprus began rolling out vaccines, the Department of Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trials has received 22 reports of non-life-threatening side effects

The Health Ministry’s Department of Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trials has so far received a total of 22 reports of possible adverse reactions to the coronavirus vaccine.

The data, that covers the period December 26 to January 26, shows that 82% of the reports were submitted by healthcare professionals and 18% by members of the general public or their relatives.

The Department said that 41% of the reports involved infrequent side effects while the rest involved common side effects, though none were life-threatening or required hospital treatment, or caused any form of disability. Rather, all reactions were short-lived and easily cured, the Department said.

Meanwhile, the Pharmaceutical Services announced that an online platform, www.kitrinikarta.gov.cy, for the submission of reports of any side effects from the coronavirus vaccine.

The Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trials Department of the Pharmaceutical Services calls on health professionals and patients to be vigilant and assess for possible symptoms of medicines they are receiving, and to inform the competent Authorities for further investigation.
