Boat spotted off Cape Greco carrying 22 migrants

Coast guard safely guides migrants to shore

Newsroom

Another boat with irregular migrants was spotted around 12:25 by radar in the maritime area of Cape Greco, a picturesque stretch of coastline known for its rugged cliffs and clear blue waters.

The vessel, small and overcrowded, bobbed uncertainly amidst the waves, a stark reminder of the perilous journeys undertaken by those seeking refuge.

Responding swiftly to the distress call, Coast Guard and Naval Police vessels raced to the scene, their sirens piercing the calm Mediterranean air. With practiced precision, they guided the fragile craft towards safety, navigating past treacherous rocks and hidden shoals.

As the boat drew closer, it became apparent that it carried not only the hopes of its passengers but also their fears and uncertainties.

Among the 22 individuals onboard were 14 men, their weathered faces etched with determination, 3 women, their eyes betraying traces of exhaustion and resilience; and 5 children, their laughter momentarily drowned out by the roar of the engine.

For these migrants, the journey was far from over. With uncertain futures ahead, they now faced the daunting task of navigating the complexities of immigration procedures and asylum claims.

Yet, amidst the uncertainty, there was a glimmer of hope - a belief that beyond the horizon lay the promise of a better life, free from persecution and hardship.
