Limassol police are investigating the death of a British man, whose body was discovered Tuesday night in Maroni in a secondary stage of decomposition.

The man, described as a 51-year-old permanent resident, lived in his Maroni residence, where neighbours noticed an intense odour coming from inside the home and notified police around 8:30pm.

The man had not been seen for days, according to residents in the area.

Fire fighters were also called to the scene and gained entrance to the home by breaking the door down.

According to police, the body was found on the toilet seat in a bloated decomposition stage.

An autopsy on the body was scheduled for Wednesday morning at Larnaca General Hospital, with preliminary reports saying police did not suspect foul play.
