Christodoulides' bold plan for Gaza welcomed by World Leaders

Positive response to Cyprus' Gaza corridor proposal

Nicosia's proposal for a maritime humanitarian corridor from Cyprus to Gaza Strip has been received positively, according to President Nikos Christodoulides who had a a telephone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is expected to also speak with French President Emmanuel Macron.

"I had a long telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel and this evening I will speak with President of France, to see how the proposal we have developed can be implemented," President Christodoulides said.

"We are discussing the details and I hope that soon we will be able to proceed to the implementation stage," he added.

Asked if Nicosia's proposal is viewed positively, President Christodoulides said "of course they are positive".

Replying to a question on how the humanitarian aid will be processed and whether there will be safety checks President of the Republic noted that of course it will be checked, both in Cyprus from where the humanitarian aid will depart and at its destination.

"Precisely, we are discussing all these details" he added.

A little earlier, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis had posted on platform X that President Christodoulides had a "comprehensive discussion" with Netanyahu on the situation in Gaza "including on the Cyprus initiative for a maritime corridor of regulated humanitarian assistance."
