President Nikos Christodoulides is traveling to Toronto this week to showcase Cyprus as a prime destination for international investment, the government said Wednesday.
The trip, announced by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, follows the president’s recent U.S. tour aimed at attracting “quality investments” to the island. In Canada, Christodoulides will meet with business leaders, entrepreneurs, and members of the Cypriot community in Toronto.
On Thursday evening, he is scheduled to attend an event organized by the city’s Cypriot communities. The following day, he will meet Prem Watsa, founder and CEO of Fairfax Financial Holdings, and take part in a roundtable discussion with top investors and entrepreneurs active in finance, research, innovation, and real estate.
Friday evening will see Christodoulides at another roundtable and working dinner hosted by the France-Canada Chamber of Commerce, where senior executives from major French-Canadian companies are expected to attend.
According to Letymbiotis, the president will present Cyprus as “a dynamic and resilient economy with high growth rates, strong public finances, historically low unemployment, and an upgrade to a Category A credit rating by all major international rating agencies, all elements that create confidence for international investors.”
As an EU member state with a strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, Cyprus offers “a unique environment for investment and regional activities,” Letymbiotis added.
Christodoulides will be accompanied by key government officials, including the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works Alexis Vafeadis; Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis; Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki; and the head of Invest Cyprus, Eugenios Eugeniou. After Canada, the president is scheduled to travel to New York on September 20.
