Following the Cyprus government’s announcement to recall around 50,000 vehicles due to faulty Takata airbags, the issue is now extending to the Cyprus Police force. It has been revealed that approximately 50 vehicles in the police fleet are also equipped with the dangerous airbags, raising concerns about the safety of officers and staff.

Police spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou confirmed the issue and reassured the public that the police force is already in contact with the vehicle suppliers to resolve the matter. "We are taking all necessary measures to address the situation," Lambrianidou stated, adding that ensuring the safety of officers remains a top priority.

Meanwhile, the Takata airbag recall will be a central topic at today’s plenary session in the Cyprus Parliament, where lawmakers are expected to discuss the broader implications of the recall and the measures needed to safeguard public safety.

In response to the ongoing issue, Mazda Cyprus has launched a dedicated telephone line to address public queries regarding Takata airbag recalls, 22-747100. The new hotline, which opened on December 16, 2024, aims to streamline communication for those affected. The line, available daily from 08:00 to 18:00, and weekends from 08:00 to 15:00, is set up specifically to assist with recall-related concerns. Mazda hopes the hotline will help resolve any questions regarding the faulty airbags and provide guidance on next steps for affected vehicle owners.

As investigations and recalls continue, both the government and private companies are working to address the issue, with the hope of preventing any potential harm from the defective airbags.
