Authorities say a divorced father drove his two young daughters to the police station to report that their mother was not home to receive them.

According to media reports, a man had spent Christmas Day with his two daughters, aged 12 and 9, and then drove them back to their home on Wednesday to be with their mother.

Media reports said the dad abandoned the two girls, however police told Knews they could not confirm or deny specific details

But the mother was not at home at the pre-arranged time according to police, with the father deciding to drive the two girls to the Agios Ioannis police station to report their mother.

Media reports said the dad abandoned the two girls, however police told Knews they could not confirm or deny specific details.

Sources told Knews the dad, described as a foreign national, got frustrated that the mother, described as a Greek Cypriot woman, was not home. But it remained unclear whether the father dropped off the girls at the station and drove away or remained in the area.

Police said they arrested the father based on a warrant and later released him.
