Deadline looms for outstanding traffic fines

Vehicle owners urged to check and pay outstanding fines before the deadline to avoid criminal charges.

Cypriot vehicle owners have until March 31, 2025, to settle any outstanding out-of-court fines related to traffic infractions captured by the phototagging system, the police have announced. After this deadline, failing to pay could lead to criminal prosecution and the formation of a criminal file.

The announcement, made earlier this week, highlighted that there are a significant number of pending fines linked to offenses recorded between January 1, 2022, and September 30, 2024. Many vehicle owners may not have received their fines, but now is the time to check and take action.

How to Check and Pay Your Fine

Checking for outstanding fines is simple. Drivers can visit the contractor’s website at CyCameraSystem.com.cy, where they’ll need to enter their vehicle’s registration number along with either their identity card or company number. The site will then show if there are any pending fines, along with the details of each violation.

If a fine is found, payment can be made through the police website at police.gov.cy. For any questions or issues, vehicle owners can contact the police’s helpline at 80008009, available weekdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

What Happens If You Weren’t Driving?

If you find out that you weren’t the one driving your vehicle when the infraction occurred, you can legally disclose the identity of the driver at the time. This can be done easily online, without the need for any lengthy paperwork. Failing to provide this information may result in further penalties under the Motor Vehicles and Traffic Act.

Avoiding Prosecution

The police emphasized that the current process is aimed at preventing criminal prosecution and reducing the workload of both law enforcement and the courts. It’s in the public’s best interest to resolve any fines before the deadline, as after March 31, unpaid fines will lead to immediate legal action.

Vehicle owners are urged to check their fines and settle them promptly to avoid any unnecessary legal trouble.
