The first case of foot-and-mouth disease in the Limassol district has been confirmed at a small goat and sheep farm in the village of Pachna, where around 60 to 70 animals are kept.
The discovery prompted an immediate response from veterinary and state authorities, as officials work to contain the virus and prevent further transmission across the district.
The outbreak has already had a major impact on livestock farms across Cyprus. More than 70,000 animals have been slaughtered since the virus began spreading, with the largest number of infections recorded in the Nicosia and Larnaca districts.
