The Greek government, as announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, will offer a week of free vacations in Rhodes to all tourists who had to cut short their stay on the island due to the devastating fires that occurred there in the recent past.
"The Greek government, in cooperation with local authorities, will provide a week of complimentary vacations in Rhodes next spring or autumn" for all those who missed out due to the fires, said the Prime Minister in an interview on the British channel ITV on Wednesday morning.
The Prime Minister noted that "as it is known, large fires have always occurred in the Mediterranean," but "what has changed in recent years due to climate change is their magnitude."
"We had a destructive fire in Rhodes, but today the island has returned to normality, and there are no active fronts."
Finally, Kyriakos Mitsotakis mentioned that during the fire, there were no human casualties or reports of injuries. "We managed to evacuate 20,000 people with great safety," he said.
