Heat peaks at 39°C as weekend begins under clear skies

Brace for the heat and ease into the weekend; slow, sunny, and just a little hazy around the edges.

It’s Friday. Another week that went by too fast, but the weekend is here and we’re ready for it, even if the weather is turning up the heat.

A warm air mass continues to affect the region, pushing temperatures inland to a sweltering 39°C. After some morning fog and low cloud lift, the sky will clear across most areas. By the afternoon, expect cloud buildups over the mountains. Winds will start off light and variable, gradually shifting southwesterly to northwesterly, with moderate strength in places, locally reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort in wind-exposed areas. The sea will be slightly rough.

Along the coast, it’ll be cooler but still warm: around 32°C in the south, east, and north, and closer to 30°C on the western coast and in the mountains. Tonight stays mostly clear, though some fog or mist could settle in spots. Winds will remain light to moderate from the southwest to northwest, and temperatures will drop to around 20°C inland and on the coast, with 19°C expected in higher elevations.

Saturday will bring more clear skies. By Sunday and Monday, some midday cloud cover could develop, especially over the mountains, with a slight chance of isolated showers. Gradually, the heat will ease, and temperatures will move closer to average for the season.

For now, brace for the heat and ease into the weekend; slow, sunny, and just a little hazy around the edges.
