Newsroom

The extensive restoration project of the historic Berengaria Hotel is currently underway, with plans for the iconic hotel to reopen its doors in 2026. Last night, a gala dinner was hosted, featuring the presence of President Christodoulides. Today, a press conference was held to provide insights into the project's progress. The renovation and development are being carried out by the renowned real estate development company, bbf.

According to Maria Heracleous, a journalist from "K," the primary objective is not only to restore the distinguished structure but also to rejuvenate the surrounding area.

The project involves expanding the resort's outdoor space to include villas and small houses for guests. Inside the hotel, a library will be established, and the grand staircase leading to the upper rooms will be preserved, maintaining the historical charm.

Specifically, the Berengaria Hotel will encompass the protected Berengaria Hotel building with 30 rooms, including 6 suites, 12 connected rooms, and 12 standard rooms. Additionally, the project will feature 14 apartments, a state-of-the-art spa, 13 townhouses, and 9 independent villas in the surrounding vicinity, amounting to an investment of approximately 35 million euros.

Historical Background

The Berengaria Hotel, nestled at an elevation of 1,400 meters in the Troodos mountain range, carries a unique history. Originally owned by Ioannis Kokkalos, the hotel was designed by British architect Walter Henry Clarke. It gained prominence for its luxurious accommodations, Cypriot and French cuisine, and vibrant musical and dance events. The hotel, constructed during the British colonial era, was named to gain favor with British authorities and secure an operating license.

Over the years, there were speculations about the hotel's future, including the possibility of reopening or transforming it into a hotel-casino.

The ambitious revival project of Cyprus's historic mountain resort, known as the "Jewel of Prodromos," the Berengaria Hotel, is now in its second phase of urgent restoration and renovation, spearheaded by the prominent real estate development firm, bbf. This ambitious venture aims to rekindle the former glory of the Berengaria Hotel, bridging the gap between its rich past and the present. The completion of the first phase has already been achieved, and the second phase is currently in progress, with an initial target for completion set in 2024 and a final completion date by 2026.

The opulent suites within the hotel have been meticulously designed to create a warm and sophisticated ambiance that caters to the needs of discerning guests. These suites offer all the modern comforts one would expect from a high-quality establishment. Furthermore, guests can relish an unobstructed view of the lush forest, with fragrant pine trees and the stunning natural landscape encompassing the hotel. This captivating natural setting extends in all directions, offering a breathtaking experience for every guest within the hotel's premises.

The renovation and development are being carried out by the renowned real estate development firm, bbf:, with the collaboration of Thanos Hotels & Resorts (Anassa, Almyra, Annabelle, Amyth of Mykonos), in the consulting and operational role.
