Flights from Israel to Cyprus are reaching eye-catching levels this year, placing the island at the heart of a major surge in regional air travel and making it the most connected destination from Israeli airports worldwide.
New figures for 2025 show a sharp rise in passenger departures from Israel, with millions traveling abroad for holidays, business, and short breaks. While Greece leads in total passenger numbers, Cyprus stands out for one key reason: sheer volume of flights.
According to data released by the Israel Airports Authority, Cyprus ranks first globally in the number of flights departing from Israeli airports, with up to 186 flights per week from Tel Aviv and Haifa alone. No other destination matches that level of frequency.
In terms of passengers, Cyprus also ranks high. Around 1.2 million travelers flew from Israel to Cyprus in 2025, placing the island fourth worldwide, tied with Italy. The United States and the United Arab Emirates rank second and third, respectively, while Greece holds the top spot with more than 2.2 million passengers.
Greece’s lead is driven by a dense flight network and direct connections to popular destinations such as Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete, Rhodes, Kos, and Santorini, along with steady demand from both tourists and business travelers.
Still, aviation experts say Cyprus’ dominance in flight numbers highlights its growing role as a regional hub and quick-escape destination for Israeli travelers, close, accessible, and easy to reach year-round.
The surge comes as overall air traffic in Israel continues to climb. Passenger numbers are estimated at 18.4 million in 2025, with projections pointing to 22 million passengers in 2026, signaling continued growth despite wider regional uncertainty.
