A delegation from Kuwait’s Al-Salam Association for Humanitarian and Charitable Works is set to send around 200 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Gaza’s civilian population via the Amalthea humanitarian corridor to the port of Ashdod, Israel.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Cyprus confirmed the delegation's arrival, emphasizing their participation in the Amalthea initiative. The collected goods, sourced from the local Cypriot market, aim to provide essential support to Gaza’s civilians.

Cyprus’ Foreign Ministry spokesman Theodoros Gotsis previously mentioned that a smaller shipment of aid had been sent to Ashdod, highlighting ongoing discussions with Israeli authorities and other stakeholders to enhance the aid delivery process through Ashdod.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command’s Deputy Commander announced yesterday that the artificial pier on the Gaza coast has finally been dismantled, ending a significant effort to deliver large quantities of humanitarian aid to the blockaded Palestinian enclave.  Future aid deliveries will proceed from US ships docking in Cyprus to Ashdod, with the supplies then trucked to Gaza’s northern border crossing with Israel.

Installed by the U.S. military two months ago, the $230 million floating infrastructure faced numerous challenges. It proved highly susceptible to adverse weather conditions, detaching from the shore several times since its mid-May installation. The pier required repeated towing to the Israeli port of Ashdod for repairs.

The U.S. Government, Israel's main ally, decided to construct this artificial port due to severe restrictions imposed by the Israeli military on overland humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza. The initiative aimed to alleviate the dire conditions faced by Gaza’s civilian population amidst ongoing conflict.
